
The supreme lama of Kalmykia, Telo Tulku Rinpoche has arrived in Mongolia and paid a visit to
Gandantegchinlen Monastery on June 25, 2011. The IX Bogd Jebtsundamba Khutugtu was pleased to acclaim the visitors from Republic of Kalmyk and said “We will sincerely worship and pray for Buddhist Religion for Kalmyk Republic”.
Due to the IX Bogd’s bad health condition of hearing, the questions put forward from visitors conducted through written manner on the board during the conversation between them. Khamba Lama Telo Tulku Rinpoche took a trip to
Zavkhan aimag to visit to the ruin of the monastery where his spiritual ancestress Dilav Khutugtu stayed a long time ago.
Telo Tulku Rinpoche was born on October, 27th, 1972, to a family of Kalmyk emigrants in the USA. At four years of age, the future Supreme Lama of Kalmykia declared to his parents the desire to become a monk. When he was six, he had an opportunity to meet His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, who advised that the boy be sent to training at the Tibetan monastery of Drepung Gomang in India. He spent 13 years there, studying Buddhist philosophy under the direction of outstanding Tibetan teachers. In the late 1980s, during his days of training at the monastery, he was recognized as the new reincarnation of the great Indian, sacred Tilopy, who was twice embodied in Inner Mongolia and three times in Mongolia.
