Teachers to go on strike
Teachers of Ulaanbaatar and from the countryside are to go on strike. They have came to this decision as they objected the proposal to the Parliament by the “National trilateral committee on Labor and Society” to raise the wage by 80,000 MNT starting March 1st and 23% starting May 1st of 2012, having postponed the original date by 2 months.
The teachers have expressed their objection through press conferences, demonstrations and have sent in requirements to the Parliament; however they have not received any concrete answer.
Teachers of secondary schools, kindergartens and their workers have announced today, that they will be going on a warning strike starting this Monday of November 28, 2011. The current wage of teachers is at 300,000 MNT, whereas they are demanding for a raise starting this January of 2012. The President of the Mongolian Confederation of Trade Unions (MCTU) S.Ganbaatar said. “The MCTU is supporting and organizing the demonstrations of our teachers. We are pushed to make these extreme steps, as the government is not living up to its promises. If this warning strike does not reach certain results, then we will go on an all-strike across the country starting this January.”
The warning strike of Monday will last for 2 hours, however they will extend the duration and announce a timeless strike if needed. Nevertheless, the teachers will not have the kids suffer from the strike, so they will be filling in for students that are left behind the program.
