Around 06:14 pm this November 27th, a strong earthquake occurred in the areas of Bumbugur and Baatsagaan sums of Bayankhongor aimag (province).  

After the earthquake of 4.9 magnitudes, cracks occurred in the ceilings and walls of the Cultural Center, several rooms of the hospital and in two houses in Bumbugur sum, whereas vibrations were felt by the residents of Bayankhongor city. 

The Earthquake Research Department of the Astronomy and Geophysics Research Center in Ulaanbaatar city reported, “At 20 km North West of Baatsagaan sum of Bayankhongor aimag, an earthquake occurred at a 4.9 magnitude. The earthquake occurred on the Sunday of November 27th at 06:18pm, and was strongly felt at the 3rd and 4th bags (the smallest administrative units) of Bumbugur sum and the 6th and 7th bags of Baatsagaan sum”. The Emergency Management Department of Bayankhongor aimag also reported that other earthquakes occurred in Jimst, Buutsagaan, Bayantsagaan and Bayan-Undur sums on the morning of November 28, 2011.
