The January Tournament of the professional sumo wrestling has started at the Kokugikan Palace in Tokyo, Japan on January 08, 2012. It is a Tokyo tradition, to put up the portraits of the previous winners on the walls of the Sumo Palace a day before the opening, and taking down the portraits of its oldest winners. 

This ceremony was held on January 07, 2012, which attracted lots attention from the press. As the portrait of Ozeki Tochiazuma who won in the January Tournament of 2006 comes down, the “Ryogoku Kokugikan” palace is left with not a single portrait of a Japanese wrestler. Today, there are 20 portraits of Yokozuna Hakuho, 9 portraits of Asashoryu, 2 portraits of Ozeki Harumafuji on the walls of the “Kokugikan” Palace, where the only other portrait is of the Bulgarian wrestler Kotooshu.
