A parliament draft resolution on setting the dates for
Parliamentary Elections was discussed at the regular plenary session of the State Great Khural (Parliament) of Mongolia on April 26, 2012 and was approved with 85.5% votes or 53 out of 62 members.
Moreover a parliament draft resolution on concluding the budget for the election was approved with 75.4% votes on the same day at the session. As cited in the resolution a budget for organizing the parliamentary election of 2012 is estimated at 16.8 billion MNT which will be drawn from the state budget, whereas 300 million MNT will be spent for election procedures for
Mongolians residing in foreign countries. Costs for establishing 1,950 electoral commissions across the nation also will be covered with the proposed amount.
On this election 2,500 automatic voting machines will be used for counting the ballots. Out of those, 1,200 machines have already been distributed in Mongolia, 900 are scheduled next week and 400 machines are to be delivered in mid of May, 2012.
“There was a lot of uncertainty among public whether the election will be held or not. With this approval the doubts will be cleared. It is important to implement the law approved by the Parliament therefore there shouldn’t be any excuses to put the blame on the resolution. A great responsibility is being laid upon the General Election Commission, also the civil servants are imposed with duties to be accountable at their own work” pointed the Speaker of the Parliament D.Demberel in his speech delivered after the approval of the resolution.
