There are about 30 NGOs in Mongolia who run operations in film making and its related fields. Yesterday on May 01, 2012 these NGOs have united to form a Mongolian Film Council (MOFIC) and made its inauguration.
The council will formulate three main policies as follows: film making policy, film screening policy and human resource policy that aims at tying state and private organizations cooperation activities together.
The founders also see that by establishing the Council it would be possible to bring Mongolian cinematography to the strong competitive position in the international film industry. “Mongolian film industry is in its new stage. However Korean and American movies are dominant over Mongolian but with this new council we will replace the situation”, said the founders. "From now on a Mongol Movie Day will be celebrated on May 01 every year", announced the MOFIC officials.
In Mongolian film creating history, May 01 is recorded as the day when the first Mongolian cinema “Ard” made its opening back in 1935 and on May 01, 1937, the first Mongolian documentary film was captured on the May Day march (International Worker’s Day).
