In frames of the "National program for introducing information technology in archive and office records" approved by the Government of Mongolia, the State Archive General Office together with the Univision company of Unitel LLC have initiated and are to implement a project "Restoring films in the Mongolian film archive, showcasing them to public".
The signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement between these two organizations that are jointly to conduct a work to restore
Mongolian films in archive and convert them into a digital system was held at the State Archive General Office yesterday on May 16, 2012. In scope of the project, the sound and image of 182 old films and 873 documentaries will be restored and converted into high definition HD format.
The Univision Company is drawing over 400 million MNT to finance the project and supply equipment to the State Archive General Office, this equipment is fully capable to restore images and sounds of movies and documentaries that were recorded on old film tapes and convert them into HD format. Also Univision is taking full responsibility to train two specialists from the Office to operate the equipment in the Federal Republic of Germany.
A film “Mandukhai Tsetsen Khatan” or “Mandukhai the Wise” is chosen as the first to be restored and converted into high definition format. The new HD “Mandukhai the Wise” film will be screened to the public within this year, 2012. Further, the best of Mongolian golden movies including “
Tsogt Taij”, “Serelt”, “Mongol Khuu”, “Munkh Tengeriin Khuchin Dor”, “Tungalag Tamir”, “Uer”, “Atsag Shudnii Zuruu”, “Gerlej Amjaagui Yavna”, “Aman Khuur”, “Altan Urguu”, “Khunii Mur” and “Bushkhuugiin Ulger” will be restored respectively.
