A citizen of Mongolia who possesses a car is obliged to pay an annual tax (air pollution fee and vehicle excise duty) on transport facilities and vehicles once during the State technical inspection.

The Traffic Police Department of Mongolia informed that the transport facilities and vehicles tax payment would be collected till June 01, 2012 and if anyone fails to pay the tax within the allotted time they would not be allowed to participate in road traffic. 

The owners of transport facilities and vehicles shall have their transport facilities and vehicles inspected on the  technical examination. If their transport facilities and vehicles are qualified by the inspection, a driver will obtain a driving permission ticket for 2012 and if they fail, that particular transport facility or vehicle won’t be permitted to enter the road traffic. A fee for the state technical examination is 15,000 MNT for trucks, 10,000 MNT for a sedan and 5,000 MNT for a motorcycle. 

As of today 80% of transport facilities and vehicles in Mongolia have been involved in the inspection, whereas over 60 thousand vehicles still need to be inspected.
