On May 24, 2012, an indoor soccer stadium, to be built in the territory of Bayanzurkh district of Ulaanbaatar city, was announced to be named after Franco Barezi, one of the top Italian soccer players of 20th century.
The "Youth club of Milan in Ulaanbatar 2012" program is being implemented for its second year by an initiative of G.Munkhbayar, the Mayor of Ulaanbaatar city. During the press conference where a team from the
AC Milan came to organize the program officials informed about the naming of the stadium.
Mongolia with severe weather conditions, lacks indoor special stadiums where youth can play their favorite sports of soccer in winter times. Hence, last year the Mayor of Ulaanbaatar city proposed to build an indoor stadium with a purpose to grant Mongolian youth with an opportunity to spent their leisure time effectively and stay healthy by practicing sports. The proposal was promoted by the Capital City Representatives Khural (City Council) and was resolved to build the stadium. The ceremony to lay foundations to the indoor stadium named after France Barezi will be held tomorrow at 12:00 pm on May 25, 2012.
Within the scope of the "Youth club of Milan in Ulaanbatar 2011",
Franco Barezi visited Mongolia last year in July, where he met with the Mongolian fan club of AC Milan Italy and also gave a lesson to the Mongolian youth.
