Mongolia traded with 121 countries from all over the world in the first 5 months of 2012
The National Statistical Office of Mongolia released the economic and social review of Mongolia for the first 5 months of 2012. The national consumer price index in May 2012, increased by 1.0 percent compared to the previous month, 9.2 percent compared to the beginning of the year, and 15.4 percent compared to same period of the previous year.
According to the report of the Bank of Mongolia, money supply (broad money or M2) at the end of May 2012, reached to 6,729.6 billion MNT, increased by of 366.7 billion MNT or 5.8 percent compared to the previous month, and increased by 1,300.7 billion MNT or 24.0 percent compared to same period of the previous year.
At the end of May 2012, currency issued in circulation reached 782.9 billion MNT, increased by 74.0 billion MNT or 10.4 percent compared to the previous month, and increased by 158.1 billion MNT or 25.3 percent compared to same period of the previous year.
The Mongolian Stock Exchange held security trading sessions 23 times in May, where 11.3 million securities worth of 4.7 billion MNT were traded.
In the first 5 months of 2012, Mongolia traded with 121 countries from all over the world and a total external trade turnover reached 4,356.1 million USD, of which exports made up 1,708.1 million USD and imports made up 2,648.0 million USD.
Foreign trade balance showed a deficit of 939.9 million USD in the first 5 months of 2012, reflecting 400.4 million USD or 74.2 percent increase compared to same period of the previous year. 
Total external trade turnover increased by 660.5 million USD or 17.9 percent, of which imports were up by 530.4 million USD or 25.0 percent, and exports up by 130.1 million USD or 8.2 percent, compared to same period of the previous year. Mineral products, natural or cultured stones, precious metal, jewelry, coins, raw & processed hides, skins, fur & articles, animal origin products, textile articles and auto & air transport vehicles & their spare parts thereof accounted for 98.5 percent of the total export value amount.
In this period, 8,336.4 thousand tons freight and 1,594.5 thousand passengers (double counting) were carried by railroad, carried freight rose by 1327.5 thousand tons or 18.9 percent, and carried passengers by 115.1 thousand persons or 7.8 percent compared to the same period of last year. In connection with the increased number of carried freight and passengers, railway sector revenue reached 172.3 billion MNT by the first 5 months of 2012 which is an increased result by 32.5 billion MNT or 23.2 percent compared to the same period of last year. 
In the first 5 months of 2012, 1,480.4 tons freight and 256.3 thousand passengers (double counting) were carried by airway transport; carried freight rose by 780.3 tons or 2.1 percent, and carried passengers by 76.8 thousand persons or 42.8percent compared to the same period of last year. In connection with the increased number of carried freight and passengers, airway transport sector revenue reached 59.0 billion MNT by the first 5 months of 2012, which is an increased result by 12.7 billion MNT or 27.5 percent compared to the same period of last year.
