A member of the Swiss Surgical Team, cooperating with the Health Sciences University of Mongolia, pediatric surgeon Dr. Beat Kehrer was awarded with the “Friendship” medal by the ordinance of the Mongolian President, where the medal was handed by the Head of the Department of Public Health Policy Implementation and Coordination of the Ministry of
Health of Mongolia D.Gonchigsuren on June 08, 2012.
A 5-year cooperation agreement was established in 1999 between the Mongolian Health Sciences University and a team of Swiss surgeons, where the pediatric surgeon Dr. B.Kehrer became a member of this team in 2002, further was appointed as the leader of the Swiss Surgical Team in 2003 and is working up to this day. Throughout the 12 years of cooperation, a total of 26 surgeons and anesthesiologists have been involved in specialized trainings in Switzerland on a period of 3-6 months with a 100% scholarship of the Swiss Government.
With the investment of the Swiss Government, a post surgery intensive treatment department worth 480,000 CHF and a post surgery room worth 150,000 CHF were established at the Central Clinical Hospital, and a post surgery room worth 150,000 CHF was established at the National Cancer Center, which is of great significance in reducing difficulties and deaths that occur post large operations at these hospitals. The team of Swiss surgeons works and operates free of charge at the Central Clinical Hospital, the Maternal and Child Health Research Center, the National Cancer Center, and in hospitals of Uvurkhangai, Govi-Altai, Darkhan-Uul, Selenge, Dornogovi, Dornod and Orkhon
aimags. Also, together with the teachers and professors of the surgery department of the Health Sciences University, they have held on-site trainings for surgeons and anesthesiologists of joint hospitals of 5 aimags under the Regional Diagnostic Treatment Center.
