A total of 544 Parliamentary candidates, nominated from the
11 parties, 2 coalitions and as an independent, who have sent their requests to the General Election Commission of Mongolia to participate in the Parliamentary Elections of 2012, have formally been registered at the Commission and been presented with their candidacy certificates accordingly.
Out of the total candidates, 354 are nominated to run in the 26 electoral districts by Majority System, whereas 26 nominees out of 354 are independent candidates, the rest 190 candidates are listed in the Party List by
Proportional System. Moreover, number of female candidates is totalized at 174, also there are three candidates aged 70 years old and the youngest candidate is aged 26 years old.
In Mongolian political history, the Parliamentary Elections with the most number of candidates was recorded at the election of 2000, where 13 parties and 3 coalitions totaling 602 candidates had participated. The election with the most number of independent candidates was the election of 2008, where a total of 45 runners nominated their names individually.
Tomorrow on June 14, 2012, the General Election Commission of Mongolia will publicize the final list of the candidates to run for the
Parliamentary Elections of 2012 as the legal term to announce the candidates is falling tomorrow, informed the Press and Media Officer of the General Election Commission of Mongolia.
