Beaver Breeding Center opened its doors
With a purpose to save the Tuul River with its decreasing water levels year after year, the Capital City Governor Office earlier brought several beavers from abroad to be populated and acclimatized in the Tuul River basin.
As part of the delivery, 14 beavers from Germany were brought in Ulaanbaatar on April 14, 2012 and these beavers are successfully adopting to Mongolian climate, besides their number has been increased by two as one of them delivered two kits early in May. The beavers were holding in a temporary housing as the construction of the beaver breeding center hasn’t been completed.
So, on June 23, a Beaver Breeding Center in a place called Uliin Davaany Uvur at Khuandain valley of the Gachuurt village in Bayanzurkh district, Ulaanbaatar, made its opening and the above mentioned German beavers were transferred to their new home. Before being released into the wild, the beavers will be temporarily kept and bred there. Also, a new construction of the unit that will be used in winter times will start soon, said officials.
“With the project to acclimatize the beavers in the Tull River basin, which is of a great significance, the water flow will be increased gradually in the future. It is to receive another 30 beavers from Russia before the National Naadam Festival. As some regions of the Russian Federation have common similarities in weather and climate conditions with Mongolia, thus some of the Russian beavers will be released directly into the Tuul River after their arrival”, said the First Deputy Governor of Ulaanbaatar city B.Baatarzorig during the opening of the new center.
