The Banzuke (a document listing the rankings of professional sumo wrestlers published before each official tournament) for the
Nagoya Basho or Nagoya Tournament (July 08-22, 2012) of the Japanese Grand Sumo that will start in Nagoya city, has been released today on June 25, 2012.
The experts were deeming that
Kyokutenho N.Tsevegnyam, who became champion in the last tournament, might return his Komusubi title back (the fourth highest position on the banzuke), but instead he was listed in the Maegashira 1 on this Banzuke. This is a second time incident in Sumo history that a Maegashira wrestler who won in the previous tournament hasn’t been promoted for a higher position.
As traditionally, Yokozuna Hakuho is leading the Banzuke, this is his 14th Basho, where only one Yokozuna is listed as 30th Basho, where Hakuho is wrestling with a Yokozuna title in total, with this record he is ranked as the top 10th Yokozuna in sumo history.
In this Nagoya Basho, two Mongolian wrestlers
Takanoiwa A.Baasandorj from the Takanohana stable and Oniarashi U.Ulziijargal from the Asahiyama stable are advanced to the Juryo division. Oniarashi U.Ulziijargal wrestled in 71 tournaments since his first debut, thus he is recognized as the foreign wrestler who reached the Juryo division in the longest period of time in sumo history. Oniarashi U.Ulziijargal and Takanoiwa A.Baasandorj became the 23rd and 24th Mongolian wrestlers to reach the Juryo division.
