Mongolia traded with 123 countries in the first half of 2012
The National Statistical Office has released its regular economic and social report of Mongolia. 
In the first half of 2012, Mongolia has traded with 123 countries, concluding the total commodity turnover at 5,575.6 million USD, where export totaled at 2,262.3 million USD and import at 3,313.3 million USD. 
Foreign trade balance for the first half of 2012 concluded at a negative 1,051.0 million USD, which is an increased result by 318.2 million USD or 43.4% compared to the same period of the previous year. The 8.1 point difference of export over import has affected this result. Mineral products, precious and semi-precious stones, precious metals, accessories, coins, raw and processed skin and leather, hunted fur, products made with this fur, knitted products, auto and air vehicles and their spare particles make up for 98.6% of the total export.
In the first half of 2012, a total of 9,951.2 thousand tons of freight and 1,956.3 thousand passengers (double counted) have been transported through rail transport, which is an increased result by 1,426.4 thousand tons or 16.7% of freight and 135.2 thousand or 7.4% passengers compared to the same period of the previous year. Due to the increase of transported freight and passengers, the income of the railway sector has reached 208.4 billion MNT in the first half of 2012, which is an increased result by 34.0 billion MNT or 19.5% compared to the same period of the previous year.
In the first half of 2012, a total of 1,876.3 tons of freight and 321.3 thousand passengers (double counted) have been transported through air transport, which is an increased result by 917.1 tons or 35.6% of freight and 87.1 thousand or 37.2% passengers compared to the same period of the previous year. Due to the increase of transported freight and passengers, the income of the air transportation sector in the first half of 2012 has reached 74.8 billion MNT, which is an increased result by 12.1 billion MNT or 19.2% compared to the same period of the previous year.
