The 22nd FIBA Asia Championship starts on Friday, August 17, 2012
Ulaanbaatar is to host the 2012 FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship which is the 2012 edition of the FIBA Asia's youth championship for basketball. 
The championship will take place on August 17-26, 2012 and is drawing much attention both from professional players and the public as being the first international basketball tournament to be organized in our country. 
Basketball players  from 16 countries including Mongolia, Singapore, Syria, Taiwan, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Republic of Korea, Japan, Lebanon, India, China, Hong Kong, Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain are to compete in the championship.
The venue of the event will be the Central Sports Palace and the Buyant-Ukhaa Sports Palace. This is also the first international basketball competition that a Mongolian team is to participate in, thus they have set goals to be advanced into the second round.
The Mongolian team was drawn to play in Group C, which comprises of Taiwan, the bronze medalists of the 21st FIBA Asia Championship held at Sana’A (Yemen), Indonesia and  Bahrain who are making a comeback into the competition after a gap of 30 years.
