The negotiation between Mongolia and the DPRK on exploitation of the Rason Special Economic Zone was continued in North Korea
Mongolian delegation led by the Minister for Justice of Mongolia Khishigdemberel TEMUUJIN has conducted an official visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) at the initiation by the Minister for People’s Security of the DPRK Ri Myong-su on November 26-29, 2012.
During an official visit, Mongolian Minister Kh.Temuujin was received by the Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly Kim Yong-nam
. Parties underlined to broaden mutual partnerships on economy, investment and legal authorities. Also, two sides exchanged views on exploitation of the Rason Special Economic Zone of North Korea on easy terms in order to open a sea-outlet for Mongolia, besides import competent workforce from North Korea
into Mongolia to implement large scale projects on infrastructure.
Moreover, the bilateral talks on mutual cooperation in the sector of legal organs were held between the Justice Minister of Mongolia Kh.Temuujin and the Minister for People’s Security of the DPRK Ri Myong-su, followed by a signing ceremony. In frameworks of the document signing, two parts negotiated to share experiences on crime prevention and its investigation, exchange vocational tutors and to boost in the field of sports and arts.
Rason Special Economic Zone
Following the Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un’s leadership, the Government of the North Korea has proactively supported the Rason Special Economic Zone
and been offering more flexible and pragmatic policies, that strives the Rason to become an important international logistics center in Northeast Asia, moreover a trade center, a tourism hotspot, a base of high-end manufacturing and a modern port city.
Currently, more than a year after construction had begun; the road from China to the Rason was paved in August of 2012. Power substations are being built, railway lines were linked to routes to Siberia, and piers at the harbor were expanded.
The Rason Special Economic Zone was established in the early 1990s to promote economic growth through foreign investment.
