At the Cabinet meeting held on Saturday, January 12, it was resolved to open a new Central Dinosaur Museum aimed to preserve cultural heritages, to document registered items and promote paleontology discoveries for public viewing.
Accordingly, the only construction in Ulaanbaatar that exists for a museum purpose - the former V.I.Lenin
Museum - was decided to convert into the purpose-built attraction center.
The new Central Dinosaur Museum would accommodate the Tyrannosaurus Bataar
, Saurolophus and Oviraptor skeletons, the fossils smuggled to the United States and soon to be returned by the U.S. authorities.
The Museum was constructed by the Ministry of Culture’s requisition under state budget financial source in 1974-1980.
