Public transportation in Ulaanbaatar

There are 95 public transportation routes are in service in Ulaanbaatar with two categories as "in the city" and "city around". As of the beginning of the March 2012, there were estimated 61 routes for full capacity buses including trolleybuses and 21 routes for mini-buses (vans) "in the city" and 13 routes for full capacity buses at "city around", also 15 taxi companies are provide the service.
New buses "Daewoo" are supplied with free Wi Fi internet. "Ulaanbaatar Taxi Transport Service" Co.,Ltd imported brand new sedans from South Korea and first 400 taxis were put in service in April 13, 2011. Today, the number of public transportations is 2.1% of the total transports in Ulaanbaatar which serves 60% of urban population.
The Public Transport Office regularly arranges the schedule for public transport buses due to increasing road flows and traffic overload. Accordingly, the number of the buses for the transport routes and new routes were also added in regard with the increasing quantity of the passengers.
According to the re-arrangement of regular workday changes (The regular workday schedule of the civil servants for Ulaanbaatar Administrative units has been arranged to start at 8:00am and finish at 5:00pm under the decision approved by the board members of the Citizens' Representative Meeting of Ulaanbaatar on August 29, 2011) to reduce the traffic flow, the time schedules of the public transportation services have been changed accordingly. Starting from September 01, 2011, the public transportation services are starting 30 minutes earlier than the previous schedule, therefore services for the main 61 routes in Ulaanbaatar start at 6:30am and operate till 10:30pm accordingly.
About 1,500 mini-buses serve in 21 express-routes that connect the "Narantuul" market (one of the biggest open air markets in UB) to the farthest destinations of the city where roads are unpaved and traffic flow is low.
Destinations over 20km away from the downtown of the city are served with buses in 13 routes every two hours.
