On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Defense Ministry
of Mongolia, a solemn ceremony to pay tribute to Black Banners of All Militants was held today in front of the Officers’ Palace on September 16, 2011.
The ceremony was attended by the member of the State Great Khural and the Minister for Defense L.Bold, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and Lieutenant-General Ts.Byambajav, the Head of the State Administration and Management division and Colonel Sh.Sukhbaatar, and other representatives of the Ministry of Defense and General Staff of the Armed Forces of Mongolia
The Great Black Banner (Bunchuk) was the traditional symbol of Chinggis Khaan’s Military Force. It was renewed in 1992 and has been considered and used as the symbol of All Militants of Mongolia since then.
The renewed Black Banner is created by skilled craftsmen using 180 gram of pure gold and 300 grams of white silver provided by the Mongolian Treasury Fund, stones from the ancient Mongolian capital Kharkhorin
, a birch from Chinggis Khaan’s motherland Khan Khentii
aimag and copper from Erdenet
, the second-largest city in Mongolia.
The Great Black Banners ceremony takes place every two years.
